Mark's Story
Mark Bender begins working with the YAA as a commander in their secret agent army. He is chosen to lead the YAA Troops into battle against the Wood Ops. The two sides are fighting because of a boundary dispute over the Penny Avenue Woods. Commander Bender gives the order to prepare the troops for attack when notified that Wood Ops forces are gathering about a mile away from their position.
He then leads his men to the enemy's position, and the two sides begin fighting. Commander Bender orders a charge, and they ambush the Wood Ops. They soon become outnumbered, so under Bender's command, the troops retreat but are pursued. Finally, he calls for a cease-fire and makes an agreement with the Wood Ops. They reluctantly agree to divide the Penny Avenue Woods in half. Mark then decides to take over the YAA as head of operations and vows to find more agent recruits due to the heavy losses in battle. He hears that Mrs. Campbell has been in a car accident while on a mission and killed. He decides to go out looking for her two sons, Nick and Wade. He comes across them as they are taking out a common thief. He is impressed by their skills and comes over to greet them. He introduces himself to Nick and Wade and asks them to come with him to become secret agents. Nick is hesitant because of his mother's death but the two are convinced to go with him. Mark then brings the two brothers to the YAA headquarters. He is about to tell them why he was looking for them and ask if anyone ever told them about their father, but he changes the subject. He introduces them to Roger Luggin, the top agent at the YAA. He then starts the brothers' training to prepare them for the field. Once Mark is notified of an important document being stolen, he asks Roger to find out who the ninja was seen on the security tapes. When they find out it is Xavier Capotta, Mark sends Nick and Wade to his ninja training facility to bring him in. When they get the tracker on the car of Xavier's allies, Mark hopes that they can follow the car to their hideout. A new candidate for a job at the YAA shows up named Sean Ripken. Mark begins interviewing him and gives him a job as an agent. Once they find the hideout the car lead them to, Mark sends Roger to investigate. However, he is killed by an agent on a jetpack. He thens sends Nick, Wade, and a detachment of YAA Troops to take down the hideout.
Later Calvin Puck begins complaining to Mark that someone stole weapons from his lab. However, Mark tells him that they will worry about it later. Ripken then attempts to infect the computer system, but Mark goes after him. thinking he went into Wood Ops territory. However, he cannot find him and is instead captured by the Wood Ops. They are about to execute him until Nick rescues him and they escape. Mark later sends Nick to investigate the Warehouse 43 robbery. Nick informs him of what happened and asks him if he has ever heard of a guy named Sean Austin, and Mark thinks it sounds familiar. He is later able to track down Austin's location using his DNA. He sends Nick to obtain information and later both Nick and Wade. Nick and Wade come back telling Mark that Austin's new hideout is the abandoned Warehouse 43. Mark then reveals that Sean Austin is the one who used to work there and tried to sabotage their computer.
That night Mark is attacked by the masked assassin, and reluctantly tells him that Nick is upstairs sleeping. The assassin then knocks Mark out. He wakes up the next morning and Nick promises him that they won't get away with what they've done. When the agents return with the money, Mark and the entire agency congratulates them. He takes the money to give to President Davis, and he promotes both of them. Mark later watches and evaluates Rick Pelt in his training session and is impressed. He tells him that the Secret Service might even be open to him as well. Mark tells Wade that if Nick leaves for the Secret Service that he still has them because they are his family. Mark then informs Nick that the president's daughter has been kidnapped, and he sends Nick to Washington, D.C.
Later, Mark escorts Nick and Wade into the party at the Patterson Mansion. He introduces Nick to Jason Rover, another agent claiming to be sent by Sam Davis. Apparently, Rover is there as back-up in case Tim Byrd tries to escape. However, Nick doesn't trust him and he tells this to Mark, who simply dismisses him and sends him into the party. Back at HQ, Mark is cleaning dishes, when Ellen Nevins walks up to him. Mark says that they've all been looking for her. Ellen says nothing and stabs Mark in the stomach, killing him.
